The size of the tyre is a series of 7 numbers typically with a ‘/’ and ‘R’ or ‘ZR’ in between. It is usually found on the side of the tyre and looks like this:

205/55R17

In this example, 

205 is the width

55 is the profile

R17 is the rim size

 

How can you find out whether you need a locking key for the wheel? If your wheel-nuts all look the same, you probably don’t need a locking key. But if one of them looks different to the rest, you may have a lock on your wheel.  

The locking key is normally kept in the glovebox or in the boot of the car. If you don’t think you need one then you don’t have to worry about trying to find the key as the wheel-nuts can simply be removed as per standard. If you do think you need a locking key but can’t seem to find it and need them removed to have your tyre changed- not to worry! We only need an image of the locking wheel-nut to see if we can break the lock open to fit the tyre. We may deduce that the lock is not breakable, in this situation we can arrange for a recovery truck to transport your vehicle to a local garage and have the tyre sorted there.
